The C to F formula — also called the Celsius to Fahrenheit formula — is $F = C \times \frac{9}{5} + 32$, or equivalently $F = 1.8,C + 32$.

So $20°C = 68°F$, $30°C = 86°F$, and $100°C = 212°F$.

The Conversion Factor

The formula is $F = C \times \frac{9}{5} + 32$. The factor $\frac{9}{5} = 1.8$ accounts for the wider Fahrenheit degree.

The $+32$ aligns the freezing point of water at $0°C$ with $32°F$.

Quick Mental-Math Shortcut

Double the Celsius value and add $30$. So $20°C \approx 70°F$ (true value $68°F$).

This is accurate within about $2°F$ for everyday temperatures and works well for weather.

Reverse Conversion

To go the other way, use $C = (F - 32) \times \frac{5}{9}$. So $77°F = 25°C$.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what temperature do Celsius and Fahrenheit read the same?
At $-40°$. The two scales cross only at that single point.
Is $98.6°F$ exactly $37°C$ using the C to F formula?
Yes — $37 \times 1.8 + 32 = 98.6$ exactly. Standard human body temperature is reported in both forms.
Can I use the doubling shortcut for very cold or very hot temperatures?
The shortcut drifts at extreme values. For scientific work, use the full formula; for weather and cooking, the shortcut is fine.
